The cross country World Cup series concluded and we want to celebrate the successes the Minnesota athletes and their teammates.

Congratulations to Jessie Diggins (Afton, graduate of Stillwater High School) capturing second place overall in the prestigious endurance series of nearly 30 races spreading from late November to mid-March with the Winter Olympics sandwiched in between. Teammate Sadie Bjornsen placed 6th overall to make for an impressive American showing and the by far the the best overall in the American women’s cross country skiing history. Kikkan Randall, a respected person and skier who willed the team to improve, and Sophie Caldwell have also had podium finishes in events. Kikkan, a mother, is retiring from competitive skiing.

No Minnesota athletes are on the men’s cross country skiing team competing in the World Cup, but Leif Nordgren is competing in the biathlon. He is currently 67th out of 95 competitors.

Running races are getting into full swing as spring approaches. Recent results: Stephanie Price, originally from Mankato and a U of M letterwinner, won the Luck O’ the Lake 5K and Eric Loeffler of Fergus Falls and a NDSU graduate who is a two-time Olympic Trials marathon qualifier, won his age division and placed 7th overall in O’ Gara’s Irish Run 8K.

Celebrate being active!
